Groundwork’s Owens Criticizes Trump’s Firing of CFPB Director

February 1, 2025

“With today’s move, the Trump administration is making way for more junk fees, predatory financial scams, and corporate crime.”

Today, President Trump fired Rohit Chopra, Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Groundwork Collaborative Executive Director Lindsay Owens reacted with the following statement:

“Under Director Chopra, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau put more than $6 billion back into the pockets of working families. With today’s move, the Trump administration is making way for more junk fees, predatory financial scams, and corporate crime.

“The big banks have been salivating to oust Chopra since Trump was elected. The Trump administration clearly cares more about enriching the billionaires who fill his campaign coffers than the working families that asked him to make their lives more affordable.”
