Today, Groundwork Collaborative welcomed Matt Hayward as the organization’s new Director of Government Affairs and Senior Strategist. With extensive experience and deep ties in Congress and the executive branch, Hayward will play a lead role in advancing Groundwork’s ambitious economic agenda and rapidly expanding footprint in the federal policymaking arena.
“At a moment when the country desperately needs an alternative to the Trump Administration’s economic doom-loop, Groundwork is building an economic vision that centers the needs of working-class families,” said Groundwork Collaborative Executive Director Lindsay Owens. “Matt is precisely the seasoned leader we need to advance that vision on Capitol Hill and beyond. His experience navigating both Congress and federal agencies to translate smart ideas into policy wins is an enormous asset to Groundwork and our fight for an economy that works for all.”
Hayward comes to Groundwork from the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs at the National Labor Relations Board, where he served as Deputy Director during the Biden-Harris Administration. He previously worked for the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Senator Al Franken (D-MN), and the Federal Reserve Board.
“For years, I’ve heard folks on the Hill say, ‘We need better messaging. We need better policy.’ Groundwork is actually generating it,” said Hayward. “I’m excited to connect to lawmakers and staff with the responses they need to today’s economic challenges.”
