BACKGROUND
- According to recent polling, Americans overwhelmingly want loopholes closed and higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations.
- Citing the 2025 expiration of parts of the Trump tax law, leading civil society groups, from labor unions, to civil rights, health care, housing, small business, women and care organizations, have urged Congress to reform the tax code so that the rich and corporations pay more and greater investments go to the things our country needs.
- Going forward, the Court should reject cases like Moore that would unwind a century of established congressional authority all in service of the wealthiest few – including billionaires with close ties to the justices: Several justices hold tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of stock in 19 corporations that stand to benefit from MRT being struck down.
