Groundwork on New White House Memo on 2025 Tax Fight: “It’s time to reverse the damage”

Today, the White House released a new memo by National Economic Council Director Lael Brainard detailing the failures of Trump’s tax law and the pitfalls of the Republican tax plan. Groundwork Collaborative Executive Director Lindsay Owens released the following statement in reaction to the memo:

“The Trump tax law was never intended to help everyday people. It served as a windfall for the wealthy and corporations – the same corporations that have jacked up prices and scored record profits. It’s time to reverse the damage.

“The White House has laid out strong principles for undoing the harms of the 2017 cuts, and even the Bush tax cuts before that, by creating a tax code that raises significant revenue through taxing the wealthiest Americans and corporations.”

• Last month, Groundwork joined over 100 democratic organizations from labor unions to civil rights organizations, women and care groups, health care and housing advocates, and more to call on Congress to make major changes to improve our tax code as the Trump tax law begins to expire in 2025.
• Owens also authored a recent op-ed, “Trump’s Corporate Tax Cuts Paved the Way for Inflation,” where she argues that the upcoming expiration of Trump’s tax law is an opportunity to crack down on the corporate profiteering that’s driven inflation.
