APALA Biennial Convention 2019 | Rights Under Attack: Rising Up, Fighting Back
August 8, 2019 - August 11, 2019
This year’s convention theme encapsulates the current political moment where worker’s rights, immigrant rights, civil rights are under attack and how our progressive movements continue to resist and fight back against the attempts to undermine our rights and communities. In a time where tensions and racial divisions are at new high and where an administration threatens our communities’ survival and freedom, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) American union, and community activists need a place to convene and tackle the challenges that we face.
The labor movement is facing the threat of a national right-to-work legislation; our country is witnessing a surge of hateful, Islamophobic, and xenophobic rhetoric and policies; and women’s and LGBTQ rights are under attack. With so much at stake, we’re doubling down on the fight for good jobs, comprehensive immigration reform, union solidarity with community groups, and more broadly freedom from hate and oppression. Now is the time to act, and our convention is an exciting opportunity to engage. We hope you’re able to join us for this one-of-a-kind gathering.
