Groundwork Collaborative welcomed two key leaders to its team – Catalina Salazar as the new Managing Director of Digital Strategy and Ian Mogavero as the new Chief Operating Officer – signaling a continued expansion of Groundwork’s innovative and proven approach to economic policy and communications. Salazar, a veteran of Capitol Hill and national campaigns, will spearhead Groundwork’s digital strategy as the organization scales its efforts to reach new audiences. Mogavero, an accomplished executive leader, will oversee the strategic and financial foundations necessary to sustain Groundwork’s growth and social impact goals.
Groundwork’s Executive Director, Lindsay Owens, said:
“I’m thrilled – and grateful – to be able to recruit the visionary leaders Groundwork needs to advance our mission at this important moment. Catalina is a brilliant visual storyteller who will build the digital team and megaphone to ensure our economic vision can become a reality for working families. Ian’s proven track record of scaling and leading mission-driven organizations will ensure that Groundwork can not only grow but also overcome the obstacles we will inevitably meet along the way. Both of these leaders bring a relentless orientation toward the future – and we are lucky they have joined us at the perfect time to chart ours.”
Catalina Salazar is a digital communications strategist specializing in visual storytelling, content creation, and message development. Prior to joining Groundwork, she served as Digital Director for United States Senator Chris Murphy, where she led the Senator’s digital media strategy and creative direction across platforms, developed a first-of-its-kind video program, and expanded new media engagement. She brings a decade of experience in political communications on Capitol Hill and on national political campaigns. Originally from Connecticut, Catalina is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College. She is also a passionate photographer whose work has been featured in the New York Times.
“At a time when the billionaires and economic elites are stacking the deck against working people, Groundwork’s ability to chart a new path forward has never been more important,” said Salazar. “I am thrilled to join this team and use every digital tool at our disposal to reshape those narratives and fight for a future where working families come first.”
Ian Mogavero is an executive leader and organizational strategist with extensive experience helping mission-driven institutions translate ambitious social impact goals into durable, high-performing organizations. Prior to Groundwork, Ian served as Chief Operating Officer of Art Bridges Foundation, where he led the $40 million Access for All program across 36 states and Puerto Rico. Previously, Ian served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of TechEquity, where his leadership helped secure landmark policy wins, including California’s Pay Equity Act of 2022. Ian holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BA in Studio Art from Wheaton College.
“To win the fight against corporate excess and billionaire-backed politicians, we need an organization built to last,” said Mogavero. “I am thrilled to join this team and help build the operation we need to take on wealthy special interests and deliver real results for everyone, not just the wealthy.”
