“Our new poll makes it clear that people across the country want the Federal Reserve to stop raising interest rates before it pushes us toward a devastating and completely avoidable recession,” said Rakeen Mabud, chief economist at the Groundwork Collaborative.
David Sirota sits down with Lindsay Owens, the Executive Director of the Groundwork Collaborative, and Hal Singer, the Managing Director of Econ One, who have both been sounding the alarm for over a year about corporate price gouging and profiteering which have been driving inflation.
In response to recent reports that members of President Biden’s Administration are considering accepting additional demands made by Speaker McCarthy in debt ceiling negotiations, Lindsay Owens, executive director of Groundwork Collaborative, released the following statement.
“It’s unbelievable to be back in this fight,” said Lindsay Owens of Groundwork Collaborative, a progressive economic think-tank. “I think there’s a growing chorus of senators and members of the House who would be unable to vote for any deal that includes any work requirements.”
My guest today is Dr. Lindsay Owens, the Executive Director of the Groundwork Collaborative. Widely known for her ability to communicate pressing economic concepts and arguments, Lindsay has been credited with changing the way we understand inflation, by leading the charge to expose—and articulate—the role of firm pricing power and corporate profiteering in price increases.
"It's time for President Biden to step away from this slow-moving train wreck and use the authority he has under the 14th Amendment to avert default," Owens declared.
“The president should not give into hostage-taking, and instead follow the lead of the majority of Americans who vastly prefer bringing in revenue through tax increases on the rich rather than making harmful spending cuts,” said Lindsay Owens, executive director of Groundwork Collaborative.
“Folks are worried about the direction that negotiations are headed in and in particular, the fact that the negotiations are starting to look a lot like 2011,” Lindsay Owens, an economist and executive director at the left-leaning Groundwork Collaborative, told Semafor. “Anytime you let Republicans control the terms of the debate around the debt ceiling, you're in trouble.”
“The negotiations are headed in a pretty dangerous direction if the administration is ready to potentially agree to sizable spending cuts and other draconian poverty measures like enhanced work requirements,” said Lindsay Owens, the executive director of the progressive group Groundwork Collaborative, in an interview Tuesday before the talks.
"If the White House's position on the budget is that closing tax loopholes on the wealthy and corporations is preferable to kicking a bunch of families in the teeth with work requirements, sure seems like now would be a great time to let the public know that," Lindsay Owens, executive director of the Groundwork Collaborative, wrote in response to the Post's story.
