Groundwork Adds Senior Fellow to Lead Oversight Strategy on Corporate Crime and Corruption

Veteran oversight attorney Molly Claflin will lead Groundwork’s efforts to expose the corporate crimes, economic abuses, and rampant corruption that have raised prices and hurt working families

Groundwork Collaborative today announced that Molly Claflin is joining the organization as a Senior Fellow, where she will lead work on corporate oversight, corruption, and the nexus of economic power and political influence in the Trump administration.

Claflin brings to the Groundwork team deep investigative experience across government and the private sector, having led high-profile probes into waste, fraud, abuse, and corporate misconduct.

Groundwork’s Executive Director, Lindsay Owens, said:

“With corporations running roughshod over working families as Trump and his cronies cash in, we need fearless investigators who know how to hold the powerful to account. Molly has spent her career taking on abuses of power at all levels of government, and her expertise will be critical as we continue exposing how corporate interests profit when working families fall behind.”

Molly Claflin is a congressional investigations lawyer specializing in high-profile and high-stakes matters. She has worked on numerous investigations– conducting them as Deputy Staff Director and Chief Counsel for Investigations for the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, where she led the team investigating waste, fraud and abuse in the United States’ fiscal response to the coronavirus pandemic; as Investigations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she managed investigations into the Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign’s connection to Russia; and as Chief Oversight Counsel at American Oversight, a non-profit that investigates corruption, where she advised Congress on two impeachments. She has also defended against investigations from the perspective of representing clients at a major international law firm and most recently while serving as Special Counsel at the U.S. Department of State, where she managed investigations response strategy for the Biden Administration.

“With the Trump administration working hand in glove with corporations to enrich themselves and rig the economy for special interests, the need for real accountability has never been more urgent,” said Claflin. “Groundwork has been leading the charge to expose how corporate power exploits working people, and I’m ready to help take that fight head-on, hold bad actors accountable, and build an economy that works for everyone.”
